AEM opened their doors in 1987 as a performance tuning shop for vintage automobiles and imports. AEM's California location put them right in the middle of the import tuner world making them one of the more popular brands when it came to modifiying imports. Automotive knowledge and creativity mixed with the love of making things go faster fueled AEM's fire for creating cutting edge products that not only looked great under the hood but offered performance gains that were second to none.

AEM put together one of the very first Air Induction System Packages. The combination of first hand experience on and off the track, feedback from racers that use the intakes, and testing in the shop led to an understanding of both the practical and performance perks of their intake systems.

AEM has always been known for their innovation and creativity in the world of intakes. AEM was one of the first companies to design and produce custom performance intake systems that utilized specific intake tube lengths and diameters that take advantage of pressure waves in the inlet tract.
