Rhys Millen 2010 Pike's Peak Hyundai Genesis PM580

Why did we pick Rhys Millen to launch our IntakeSystems.com sponsored driver program? Well, besides being extremely talented, nice, creative and a bit nuts, he is the first guy to do a back flip in a truck that meant to do it. Besides that small feat, he is a top rally driver in the U.S., Pikes Peak Time Attack World Record Holder, Formula D Champion Drift Car Driver, Lead Stunt Driver for Dukes of Hazard, The Fast and the Furious (Tokyo Drift) Mr. & Mrs. Smith and a host of fast trick driving car commercials.

For that helmet full of talent, we proudly sponsored Rhys Millen and his Hyundai Genesis PM580 at the 2010 Pike's Peak International Hill Climb. We decided to put our brand on the carbon fiber intake system for obvious reasons. Being only 40 days old, the vehicle needed a lot of sorting out before it could crack the 10 minute barrier that has held firm against all racers for decades. This 2010 attempt by the team ran into transmission issues on race day, but he and the Hyundai team will prove to be huge competitors with their 4.1-liter V6 775 horsepower PM580. As Rhys said "2010 Pikes Peak was a practice run for 2011."

Rhys Millen and his Genesis 850 were both bred for speed. Rhys' father, Rod Millen, held the Pike's Peak Hill Climb record from 1994 to 2007 at a time of 10:04:06. In 2009 Rhys broke the 2 wheel drive record on Pike's Peak at 12 minutes, 9.397 seconds.

The Pike's Peak International Hill Climb, also known as the "Race to the Clouds", has a long history of racing and record breaking. Dating back to 1916, the race covers a 12.42 mile course with classes ranging from cars, trucks, motorcycles and quads. The first winning driver, Rea Lentz, finished with a time of 20:55.40 in a Romano Demon Special.

Watch Rod and Rhys recollect on their memories, experiences and expectations of the Pike's Peak course.
